I f you have ever heard that the Mexican movie star Pedro Almendáriz had connections to South Texas, you heard correctly. We did a research on him and found some great results in contacting family members and old friends from when he lived in Benavides, Texas. In our music section, René Cabrera, music columnist of the Corpus Christi Caller, is sponsoring a series of lectures on Tejano music. In this particular night, he covered "The Tejano Circuit Falfurrias to Detroit". If you have a little Irish blood in you, you need to read about the San Patricios, a group of soldiers who deserted the U.S. Army during the U.S. - Mexico War of 1846-1848 and joined the Mexican Army. A truly remarkable story about this group of men who fought so gallantly for Mexico. If you are a fan of the faith healer of Los Olmos, don Pedrito Jaramillo, you don't want to miss out on how the first Catholic Church in Falfurrias acquired its church bell. There is also a beautiful poem dedicated to don Pedrito after his death in 1907. Be sure to check out our regular departments and thank you for being a regular reader. Hasta la próxima, Homero S.
