A MAGAZINE ABOUT MEXICAN-AMERICAN
CULTURE AND HERITAGE IN
SOUTH TEXAS AND MEXICO

April 1998
Volume 1, Issue 7
Our main feature this month is Rancho San Buenaventura of Saturnino Vera Alanis, Duval County pioneer. I refer to the last names with the paternal one first, as it was registered in Mexico, followed by the maternal. My references for some of the information were: Duval & Nueces County Court records, Texas General land Office, Tax Rolls for Duval County 1876-1910, book of marriages of 1876 - St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church in San Diego, Texas list of Camargo Civil Marriages 1860-1880, and the book Hacienda San Buenaventura by Ascension G. (Chagito) Vera.
I'd like to thank José Noe Martinez of Duval County for lending me the abstract of El Señor de la Carrera, my dad, Lino R. Vera, for furnishing the photo for the cover and some oral history, and tia Berta V. Gomez for providing the list of Camargo Civil Marriages 1860-1880.
