May 1998
Volume 1, Issue 8
Our main feature this month is Rancho Santa Cruz, one of the first settlements in Southern Duval County along the banks of the Los Olmos Creek. In the early 1860's, the Martinez', Gonzalez', and Saenz' were the principal settlers. References for some of the information: Duval and Nueces County records, tax rolls for Duval County 1876-1900. I want to thank Manuel V. Saenz of Rancho Nuevo, Duval County for providing the cover photo. The persons are left to right: on horseback - Hilario V. Saenz and gabriel V. Saenz, María V. Saenz, Tomasita Vera de Saenz, baby Daniel, Manuel Saenz Escobar, Contrana V. Saenz, Teresita V. Saenz, Romanita Salazar, and Isabel Salazar.
