Volume 2, Issue 15

This month’s main feature is the José de Escandon Festivities held in Alice, Texas on November 14, 1998. There are plenty of pictures for you readers who couldn't make the events.

We take a look at two local artists whose works have recently been features in the book, Tejano Empire by Andrés Tijerina. They are Ricardo Moreno Beasley and Servando G. Hinojosa.

Nick Gonzales gives us a synopsis of his series of articles on our Hispanic roots in Spanish verse form.

Read about the Quetzal Theater Group of Corpus Christi who perform historical plays.

Check out our regular departments and thanks to Nita Guerra for sharing some family recipes with us. I would also like to thank Manuel Peña for providing some of the history on the story of his uncle, Ricardo M. Beasley.

We had several answers to our riddle, Una vaca mora cruzo por el mar, ni el perro ni el lazo la pudo alcanzar, that Natalia Lopez had given us. We've had guesses of la ola and las nubes; but the answer is supposed to have seven words. We'll keep trying til we find the answer. The answer to Inéz Treviño's riddle, Salomon, siendo tan sabio, preguntó al mundo entero, ¿Que carne es la que se corta, antes de llegar al cuero? The answer is las mollejas de aves.

We would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Safe New Year.

Hasta la próxima,
Homero S. Vera
